Licata is also known for its unique folklore traditions, with religious festivals, processions and cultural celebrations. Among the most important and heartfelt we point out the spectacular processions of the Patron Saint Sant’Angelo which, as per tradition, are always carried out in the first week of May and the first Sunday after August, and the engaging religious ceremonies of Good Friday. These events offer residents and visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in ancient Sicilian customs.

ARCHITECTURE

Among the buildings of greatest historical importance we find the sacred tomb (Tholos) of the mythical Cretan king Minos, the Grangela with its tunnels dug deep into the rock for the collection of water dating back to the Hellenic period, the Stagnone Pontillo hypogeum, the Castel Sant’Angelo, the ancient fortress that dominates the city, the narrow and winding medieval streets of the Marina district, its historic buildings in Baroque style and its splendid churches.
